Dr Shanon Patel

Shanon works in a mutli-displinary specialist practice in central London 4 days per week, he also has a Consultant position at King’s College London (KCL) where he has a Consultant’s clinic managing patients with complex root canal and orofacial pain problems, and also supervises master’s and PhD research projects.

In 2007 he was the first Endodontist in the Europe to routinely use Cone Beam CT (CBCT) in specialist practice for the management of endodontic problems. His PhD thesis assessed the use of 3D imaging techniques (CBCT) in the management of Endodontic problems.

His primary research interests reflect the interesting challenges he deals with in everyday practice; factors influencing the survival of teeth, dental trauma and CBCT in Endodontics, he has supervised over 25 masters and PhD research projects. Shanon is recognised as an expert in using CBCT in Endodontics. This has resulted in him being involved in publishing national, and also european guidelines on dental imaging and CBCT in Endodontics.

He has published over 50 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals, several book chapters and also co-edited 3 textbooks-one of which has been translated into Chinese!!

Getting to the root of problem; how to improve the likelihood of retaining endodontically treated teeth

This presentation will highlight the established factors which can improve the survival rate of endodontically treated teeth, as well as looking at potential factors which could also play an important role in the survival of root treated teeth.
